Forty-Seven Minutes Heads-Up, and Lance Cain Wins His Second

The third-longest finish the league has staged — and Justin Vaughn’s run of finals ends in seventh.

Lance Cain and Josh Reel played heads-up for forty-seven minutes on Friday, longer than any finish in the league’s history bar two. Lance won it, four knockouts and $360, twenty-five months after his only previous Eight Deuce win.

Both his career wins have come in this league; he took his first at his fifty-ninth attempt across both leagues, in July 2022. Josh took $245, his second runner-up finish of the season.

Steve Sarbaugh was third for $170, his first cash in six Eight Deuce tournaments, and Lee Ugarte fourth for $125.

Warren Mervin bubbled in fifth. Justin Vaughn, who had been in the last two of the previous four tournaments, went seventh.

Mike McEvoy was the first player out after eighty minutes, and Eric Denny, who won a fortnight ago, rebought and finished thirteenth.

The bigger picture

Fourteen players and two rebuys made $900, a recovery from two straight ten-man nights. This was the earliest August tournament the league has held, two weeks after July’s.

Eight tournaments, seven different winners, and only Lee Ugarte has two. He leads on 293.99 with two to play, forty-one ahead of Justin Vaughn and forty-four ahead of Warren Mervin.
