Eric Denny Knocks Out Eight in Five and a Quarter Hours

The biggest pool the series has had, and the winner made two thirds of the eliminations.

Nine players and four rebuys made $550, a third straight record, and they were at it for five hours and eighteen minutes — longer than any WSOP event bar the 2018 heads-up tournament, which ran on its own structure. Eric Denny made eight of the twelve eliminations and won $260.

Eight of twelve is the most one-sided WSOP night on record, past the six he made in the Big O event two years ago. It is his second win of the season and the fifth of his WSOP career; nobody else has more than two.

Steve Sarbaugh was second for $155, by a long way his best result in three WSOP events, and Charlie Drotar rebought and took third for $135.

Sean Denny rebought, made five knockouts — more than anyone outside the winner — and bubbled in fourth. Paul Coffman rebought too and was fifth with three of his own.

Lee Ugarte, who won in May and led the table coming in, rebought and finished sixth. Rick Mazza was the first player out.

The bigger picture

Four events, four different winners, and the pool has climbed at every one: $270, $470, $510, $550. Twelve rebuys have gone in over the last three nights alone.

Eric Denny takes back the lead on 144.33, thirty-three ahead of Lee Ugarte with the October finale to come. He has won two of the four and cashed in three.
