Andrew Shier

A league championship does not always go to the player who wins the most tournaments. Andrew Shier took the Canterberry League Championship in 2017-18 with a single tournament win that season, and that is the shape of his whole career.

That win was #99 in March 2018 — twenty players, six knockouts, $140 for first — and it came at the thirty-seventh tournament he had ever played. He has won once more: WSOP 2-4 in August 2021, a five-handed World Series of Parker event he shared with Charlie Drotar.

Two wins in 96 events, but the rest of the record is steadier: 9 second-place finishes, 25 cashes and $2,447 in career prize money. In the World Series he has three runner-up finishes on top of the win, from nineteen starts.

The biggest payday of his career is not a win at all. January 2026, Eight Deuce #51, twenty players: the last three agreed a split on chip counts and Andrew took $410 for second, more than either of his wins paid.

At #59 he reached 100 career knockouts. Heads-up has been unkind — ten appearances, two wins — but eleven years in, he is still a player the rest of the table has to get past.
