The Mixed Games Come Back, and Eric Denny Wins Again

A different game at every event once more — and the champion picks up where he left off.

Friday, January 24, 2025 Omaha Hi/Lo 7 players $390 prize pool 2 paid

The 2023 series played Omaha Hi/Lo five times and one man won three of them. This one goes back to a different game every event — Stud, a heads-up tournament, Dealer's Choice and Crazy Pineapple are all to come — but it opens the way every series has opened, with Omaha Hi/Lo. Eric Denny won it again.

He rebought, made four of the nine eliminations and took $230 from a $390 pool. It is his seventh WSOP win; nobody else has more than two.

Lance Cain made three knockouts and was second for $160, and Angela Cain bubbled in third — one place off the money, put there by her husband.

Where the money went

The undercard

Lee Ugarte, who won the Omaha event in May 2023, finished fourth. Andrew Shier rebought and was fifth, Charlie Drotar rebought and was sixth, and Rick Mazza was the first player out.

Nobody went out inside three hours and twenty-four minutes, and the last two were still playing at four hours and fifty-seven minutes.

The bigger picture

Seven players and three rebuys made $390 — less than the three big 2023 nights but more than either of that season's bookends, and more than any event of the first two series.

Four events remain and the WSOP Champion trophy goes to whoever leads in September. Eric Denny, who has won two of the three titles awarded so far, starts on 40.00.
