Dawn Bjork Ends a Twenty-One-Month Wait

She knocked out the last three players standing. Two of them finished level and split the money.

Friday, August 9, 2013 14 players $281 prize pool 4 paid

Twenty-one months after her last one, Dawn Bjork won her fourth Canterberry Poker League tournament. Four hours and fifteen minutes, three knockouts, $140 — and all three of her knockouts were the players who finished in the money behind her.

Second place was shared. Erik Treiber and Rick Mazza were both credited with it and took $58 apiece, going out together at the end of a night that had run four and a quarter hours.

Rick Mazza made five knockouts, more than anybody, and still could not close it out. That is a third money finish in the three tournaments this season has run: first, second, second. Steve McLean completed the money in fourth for $25 in his first appearance of the year.

The undercard

Eric Denny bubbled in fifth with three knockouts, one of only three players to manage more than one all night. Rick Mickaliger went out first after an hour and thirty-seven minutes, and Kenny Jones — who had won the previous tournament on debut — came thirteenth of fourteen in his second.

The bigger picture

Three tournaments, three different winners, and the season has not yet produced a repeat.

Rick Mazza leads on 50 points with a win and two seconds from three starts, fourteen clear of Dawn. Lori Mazza is third on 32, which puts two of the top three in the same household.
