Scott Dishong Takes His Third, and a Debutant Nearly Took It Off Him

Six knockouts out of twelve, and the man he beat heads-up had never played here before.

Scott Dishong knocked out six of the twelve players who had to go and won his third Canterberry Poker League tournament — four hours and twenty minutes, $90, and his second win in three months.

He has played three tournaments this season and reached the final two in all three: a win in August, second in October, a win now. Across eighteen league tournaments he has three wins, and one of them was the first he ever entered.

The man across from him at the end had never played the league at all. Patrick Mckim turned up, made two knockouts, reached heads-up and lost it in six and a half minutes, taking $60 for second on debut.

Eric Denny was third for $30 and Rick Mickaliger completed the money in fourth for $15, his first cash of the season in his fourth attempt.

Josh Reel bubbled in fifth, put out by the debutant. Clay Yawn also played his first league tournament and came twelfth. Rick Mazza was the first player out after an hour and fifteen minutes, knocked out by Steve McLean, who also took out the man who finished ninth.

The bigger picture

Six tournaments, five different winners. Skippy is the first man to win twice this season, and he has done it from three appearances.

That is also enough to put him top: 138 points, two ahead of Josh Reel, who has played five. Eric Denny is third on 113 having played all six. The best-eight rule has not started biting anybody yet.
