Josh Wins It With Two

The man who put out five finished third, and the man who put out two took the money.

Twelve players had to go out, and the winner accounted for two of them. Josh Reel spent four hours and nine minutes letting other people do the damage, then finished it in eight and a half minutes heads-up for $120. It is his second win of the season, and both have come in months where somebody else did most of the eliminating.

Charlie Drotar was the man across the table, and he takes $70 for the best night of his short league career — five tournaments played, and he has gone sixth, sixth, fifth, fifth and now second.

Third and $44 went to Warren Mervin, who made five knockouts, more than anybody, including four of the last five players out. He was still third. Mike Murphy played his first league tournament and completed the money in fourth for $26.

Rick Mazza bubbled in fifth. Eric Denny, who had won the last two, could manage only ninth. And Dan Myers was the first man out after an hour and thirty-six minutes — the fourth player Warren sent home.

The bigger picture

Six tournaments, four different winners, and two of them have now won twice. Eric keeps the lead on 66 points despite the ninth, but Josh has closed to five and Mazza is eight back.

The league takes December off. When it returns in January there will be four nights left, and the top three are covered by eight points.
