David Doole

Two Canterberry League Championships is a total only two other players have matched, and David Doole won his five years apart — 2011-12 and 2016-17. Add the Annual in 2024 and that is three trophies, 10 wins and $5,880 in career prize money across seventeen years.

The Annual was the one that had been getting away. Doole had played it sixteen times before November 2024, cashing five, finishing second once, never first. Then fourteen runners sat down and he took it for $740, the biggest payday of his career.

A year later he was back at that final table and one hand from doing it again. The 2025 Annual came down to Doole heads-up against Eric Denny and it was over in one minute and forty-eight seconds — the shortest heads-up match in the history of the Annual, and on the wrong end of it.

He built the Canterberry seasons on big fields. His win at #89 in March 2017 came against twenty-two players; #108 in February 2019 against twenty-three. Seven Canterberry wins in all, and one hundred of his knockouts came in that league alone.

Then he proved it carried over. September 2021, Eight Deuce #9: thirteen players, seven of them knocked out by Doole personally, $385 for first. He added #30 in October 2023.

The career line reads 144 events, 44 cashes, 157 knockouts and seventeen trips to heads-up with ten wins. His first win did not arrive until the nineteenth tournament he played. Everything since has been a matter of waiting for the right night and taking it.
