David Doole Wins the Biggest Field in Two Years

Nineteen players, five knockouts, and the man who won the opener finished eighteenth.

Friday, July 18, 2014 19 players $285 prize pool 6 paid

Nineteen players turned out in July, the largest Canterberry Poker League field since July 2012, and David Doole came through it in four hours and forty minutes for $110. Five knockouts, and his fourth league win.

Steve McLean was second for $70 with three knockouts, and lost the heads-up match in ten minutes and twenty seconds. That is his second cash in the two tournaments this season has run, and it matches the second place he took in March.

Mike McEvoy took third and $45 with three knockouts of his own, in his first appearance of the season — seventeen league tournaments now without a win. Rick Mazza, who won the league last season, played his first tournament of this one and finished fourth for $25. Erik Treiber was fifth for $20 and Lori Mazza sixth for $15.

The bigger picture

Two tournaments, two winners, and neither was a surprise: Josh Reel has eight league wins and Doole now has four. Between them they have won twelve of the sixty-two tournaments this league has held.

David Doole leads on 73 points from two starts, ten clear of Steve McLean, who has cashed twice and won neither.
