David Doole and Lance Cain Take Eleven of the Fifteen Between Them

A seventh different winner in nine tournaments, and the man he beat has never won one anywhere.

David Doole knocked out seven players on Friday and Lance Cain knocked out four, which between them is eleven of the fifteen eliminations available. They were the last two left, and Doole finished it in nine minutes after four and a half hours to take $385.

It is Doole’s first win in the new league and the eighth of his career. He won seven at Canterberry.

Lance took $230 for second, his second cash in three tournaments after six without one. He has still never won a tournament in either league — but he was one hand away on Friday, and he did it from the same table as his wife Angela Cain, who went tenth.

Josh Reel was third for $160 without making a knockout all night, and Eric Denny — who had won the previous two — was fourth for $125.

Shawn Miller bubbled in fifth, which is the fourth time this season he has finished in the top five. Rick Mazza, one of only two men with two wins this season, was the first player out after an hour and thirty-five minutes — one of Lance’s four.

Jeff Holderman came eighth and did not cash for the second time in three tournaments.

The bigger picture

Nine tournaments have now produced seven different winners. Only Rick Mazza and Eric Denny have two apiece, and neither of them is leading the season.

Jeff Holderman is, on 343.76, and his advantage is down to forty-eight points with one tournament left. Josh Reel on 295.92 and Eric Denny on 290.43 are the two who can still catch him, and both would need something close to a win in October to do it.
