The Annual · 2024
David Doole Rebuys and Wins the Annual
Shawn Miller knocked out five and finished seventh. Steve McLean bought in three times and finished second.
David Doole lost his stack early enough to buy back in, and nine hours and forty-four minutes later he had the trophy and $740. It is the first Annual of his career, in a year when he did not win a Friday tournament at all.
Steve McLean rebought twice and still made the final two, losing a thirteen-minute heads-up match for $460. He has played nine Annuals and this is his best result; last year’s fourth was the previous one.
Justin Vaughn was third for $330 with three knockouts, and Warren Mervin, five weeks after taking the Player of the Year, fourth for $250.

The undercard
Shawn Miller made five knockouts, more than anyone at the table, and finished seventh. Four of the five were the men who went out tenth, eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth.
Angela Cain rebought and bubbled in fifth, two years after finishing fourth in this event for her only Annual cash. Jeff Holderman, who won this event a year ago, was the first player out after five hours and forty-one minutes.
The bigger picture
Fourteen players and five rebuys made $1,780, and this is the fourth Annual in a row with a field of thirteen or fourteen. The event has not drawn more than that since 2020.
David Doole is the thirteenth different player to win an Annual across its eighteen editions. Only Joe Johnson and Josh Reel, with three each, and Brian Albers, with two, have won more than one.
The Tournament of Champions follows on December 1.
The 2024 Annual — Saturday, November 16, 2024. 14 entrants, 5 rebuys, four paid from a $1,780 prize pool. The eighteenth Annual; it is a separate event from the Eight Deuce season and does not count toward the Player of the Year.
