Twenty Players, and Doole Goes Through Five of Them

The biggest field the league has assembled, and the reigning champion took the most knockouts and the money with it.

Friday, July 13, 2012 20 players $400 prize pool 6 paid

Twenty players sat down — equal to the most this league has ever had — and David Doole came through them. Five knockouts, more than anybody, four hours and fifty minutes at the table and an eight-and-three-quarter-minute heads-up match. It pays $170.

It is his second league win, ten months after the first, and it comes with the trophy from last season already on the shelf.

Rick Mickaliger was second for $95. Garrett Lee played his first league tournament and finished third for $50 with two knockouts. Warren Mervin took fourth and $35, Kelly Kruegel fifth and $30, and Rick Mazza completed the money in sixth for $20.

The undercard

Erik Treiber bubbled in seventh. Mike Conner finished eighth with four knockouts, one short of the winner and the most by anybody who missed the money. Chris Fries played his first league tournament and was the first man out, after an hour and forty-three minutes.

The bigger picture

Two tournaments, two different winners, and the standings are level at the top: Warren Mervin and Doole both on 28 points — Warren from a pair of fourth places, Doole from a seventh and the win.

The fields are growing. Fifteen in June, twenty here, and a $400 pool — the most this league has put in the middle for a single tournament.
