A second win in a month, and a runner-up in only her fourth league tournament.
Kjell Wygant waited six tournaments for a first win and then took a second a month later. Four knockouts, four hours and thirteen minutes, and $140, ten dollars short of the season’s biggest first prize.
Five cashes from seven league tournaments now, and a card this season that reads second, second, sixth, first, first.
The player who pushed him hardest matched him knockout for knockout. Kelly Kruegel also made four and took $70 for second, in only her fourth league tournament — a fourth place last month, a runner-up finish now.
Charlie Drotar was third for $40, his fifth cash without a win. Mandy Denny took fourth and $30, and Warren Mervin completed the money in fifth for $20.

The undercard
Mike Conner bubbled in sixth. Dawn Buzbee finished eighth with a knockout, and Duane Barone was the first man out after an hour and twenty-nine minutes. Kelly took four on her way to second, two of them in the last three players to leave.
The bigger picture
Five tournaments, four different winners, and one of them is running away with it. Kjell is on 97 points, forty-four clear of Warren, having finished no worse than sixth all season.
Behind him the table has a shape this league has not seen: Kelly third and Mandy fourth, with Dawn seventh. Nine months ago no woman had won a Canterberry Poker League tournament; three now sit in the top seven of the standings.
