Ten of Thirteen, Between the Last Two Standing

Lee Ugarte and Kelly Kruegel emptied the room between them, and then it took three minutes.

Friday, January 13, 2012 14 players $266 prize pool 4 paid

Thirteen players went home, and the two who reached the final two had accounted for ten of them. Lee Ugarte made six, Kelly Kruegel four, and once it was down to the pair of them it lasted three minutes and eight seconds. Lee takes $126 after three hours and forty-four minutes.

It is his fourth league win, ten months after the last, and it comes off the back of a season that had produced nothing better than a sixth.

Kelly takes $70 for second, her best finish since the runner-up spot she managed in October 2010 — and she was the one who sent home the last two players to leave. Rick Mickaliger was third for $45, and Warren Mervin completed the money in fourth for $25.

The undercard

Erik Treiber bubbled in fifth with two knockouts, more than anybody who missed the money. Rick Mazza was the first player out after an hour and eleven minutes.

The bigger picture

Seven tournaments, seven different winners. Nobody has won twice all season, and the league has never gone this deep into a year without a repeat.

David Doole is on 99 points and twenty-one clear, but he has not won since September and the men behind him keep taking turns. Three nights left.
