Doole Loses the Last One and Wins the Season
The leader went to the final two on the closing night, lost it, and took the title by nineteen points anyway.
Three men came into the last night inside four points of each other, and the one at the top settled it by reaching the final two. David Doole lost that match to Josh Reel in eight and three-quarter minutes — and it did not matter. Josh takes $148, the biggest first prize of the season; Doole takes the season.
It is Josh’s fourth league win and his first in twenty-nine months, and he did it with a single knockout, which on this night was the least of anybody in the money.
Doole was second for $75 with four knockouts. Rick Mickaliger took third and $45 with five, the most in the room, in his sixth tournament of a season that has produced two wins. Mandy Denny was fourth for $30 and Lee Ugarte completed the money in fifth for $25.

The undercard
Ashley Lee bubbled in sixth, a month on from her eight-knockout night. Lori Mazza was seventh with two knockouts. Kelly Kruegel went out first after thirty-nine minutes, which ends a run of three straight money finishes about as abruptly as it could have.
The bigger picture
Ten tournaments, nine different winners — the most this league has produced in a season, and only Rick Mickaliger managed two.
David Doole is the 2011-12 League Champion on 128 points, nineteen ahead of Charlie Drotar. He won one tournament all year, in September, and led the standings from November to the end on the strength of six cashes in ten nights. Tom Buzbee is third on 104 and Rick Mickaliger fourth on 100 from only six appearances.
