Seven Knockouts, and the Debutant Beats Him
Steve McLean took out half the field on the opening night of the season. Scott Dishong, playing his first league tournament, took the money.
A fifth season opens with the buy-in up to twenty-five dollars, and with a man winning the first league tournament he has ever played. Scott Dishong made a single knockout, sat for four hours and twelve minutes and came through an eighteen-and-a-half-minute heads-up match for $140.
The man he beat had done nearly everything else. Steve McLean put out seven of the fourteen who went home — half the field, and the most anybody has managed since Ashley Lee took out eight in March — and took $70 for second. It is the best finish of his six league tournaments.
Josh Reel was third for $40, Warren Mervin fourth for $25 with two knockouts, and Tom Buzbee completed the money in fifth, also for $25.

The undercard
Lori Mazza bubbled in sixth with a knockout. Dave Hay played his first league tournament and finished ninth. Rick Mazza was the first player out after an hour and forty-four minutes — one of Mac’s seven.
The bigger picture
One down, nine to go, and the standings open with the runner-up on top: Mac leads on 18 points, five clear of Skippy.
The buy-in has gone from twenty dollars to twenty-five for this season, which puts $300 in the middle of a fifteen-man field — more than any opening night the league has had.
