Paul Coffman Wins His Third, All Inside Fourteen Months

The reigning League Champion had opened his title defense with a sixth and a tenth. On Friday Paul Coffman won his third Canterberry Poker League tournament — three knockouts, four hours and twenty-three minutes, $85 — and all three of his career wins have now come inside fourteen months.
Before June 2015 he had played thirteen league tournaments without winning one.
Duane Barone was second for $60 after a nineteen-minute heads-up match, his second cash in a row. Steve McLean took third and $30, and Andrew Shier completed the money in fourth for $20 — seventeen league tournaments, three cashes, still no win.

The undercard
Charlie Drotar bubbled in fifth. Lance Cain finished sixth with two knockouts, taking out David Doole and Eric Denny eleven seconds apart. Rick Mickaliger was the first player out after an hour and thirty-three minutes.
The bigger picture
Three tournaments, three different winners, and the top of the table is as tight as it gets: Steve McLean and Eric Denny level on 42, Duane Barone on 40, Paul on 36.
Mac has reached that from two appearances, Eric from three. Under the five-score rule that difference is worth watching — a player who banks big numbers early can afford to miss months, which is exactly how Paul won the thing last season.
