Canterberry Poker League · Tournament #85
Warren Mervin Makes It Three Men on Ten
The same three keep arriving at the same number. And for the second tournament running the man with the most knockouts finished second.
Eighteen months after his last one, Warren Mervin won his tenth Canterberry Poker League tournament — five knockouts, four hours and thirty-eight minutes, $95 — and joined Josh Reel and Eric Denny at the top of the all-time list.
These three have now converged three times. They were level on seven in April 2014, on eight in February 2015, and on ten today. In between, each of them has held the lead alone at some point and none of them has kept it.
Charlie Drotar was second for $55 having knocked out six of the sixteen — more than anybody, and one more than the winner — then lost a thirty-six-minute heads-up match. It is the second tournament in a row where the night’s biggest knockout total belonged to the runner-up.
Erik Treiber took third and $40 in his first appearance of the season, Lee Ugarte fourth and $35 without a knockout, and Joe Johnson completed the money in fifth for $30 — his third cash in eight league tournaments, six months after taking the Annual.

The undercard
David Doole bubbled in sixth, five weeks after winning. Mike McEvoy was the first player out after fifty-two minutes, which ends a run of four straight top-three finishes.
Steve McLean came tenth and knocked out Scott Dishong, who went sixteenth.
The bigger picture
Five tournaments, five different winners. Nobody has won twice, and the five men who have won hold thirty-one league wins between them.
The standings are packed: Duane Barone on 54, Paul Coffman and Lee Ugarte on 52, Warren on 51, Steve McLean on 50. Duane has played all five and has not won one of them; Warren has played three.
