Canterberry Poker League · Tournament #86
Greg Howell Takes His Second, and It Is Six Winners From Six
Joe Johnson has three Annual trophies and reached a league final table again — he has still never won one of these.
Fourteen months after the first, Greg Howell won his second Canterberry Poker League tournament — five of the eleven knockouts, four and a half hours, $70 — in only the twelfth league tournament he has played.
His league career divides cleanly. Three times he has made five knockouts or more — six in September 2015, six in September this year, five tonight — and those three nights are his two wins and a runner-up. In the other nine tournaments he has made five knockouts between them.
Warren Mervin was second for $45, five weeks after winning his tenth, and the finish took seventeen minutes. It puts Warren top of the standings from four appearances.
Joe Johnson took third and $25, his best finish in nine league tournaments and a fourth cash in them. He has won the Annual three times and has never won one of these. Charlie Drotar completed the money in fourth for $20 with two knockouts, a second money finish in a row.

The undercard
Duane Barone bubbled in fifth. Paul Coffman, the reigning champion, came seventh, and Eric Denny eleventh of twelve. Lance Cain was the first player out after an hour and forty-one minutes.
The bigger picture
Six tournaments, six different winners. Every man who has won one this season had won here before.
Warren Mervin leads on 69 points from four starts, ten clear of Lee Ugarte and Duane Barone. Duane has played all six without winning one, and neither has Lee, whose last win came in April; under the five-score rule his sixth appearance has already stopped adding anything.
