Six Knockouts, and Second Place Again

Warren Mervin took out nearly half the field and lost heads-up in six minutes. Dawn Buzbee has her third win.

Friday, November 11, 2011 15 players $285 prize pool 6 paid

Fourteen players went home and Warren Mervin sent six of them — and finished second, for the second time in three months. Dawn Buzbee won it with three, in three hours and forty-nine minutes, closing out a six-minute heads-up match for $120.

It is her third Canterberry Poker League win, sixteen months after the second, and it puts her level with a small group: only Warren, Eric Denny and Rick Mazza have won more.

Warren takes $75. Eric Denny was third for $40 without a knockout all night, and Mandy Denny fourth for $30. Fifth was shared and so was the money: David Doole and Rick Mickaliger took $10 each.

The undercard

Six paid from fifteen pushed the bubble deep, and it was shared: Steve McLean and Josh Reel both finished seventh. Duane Barone was the first player out after an hour and twenty-three minutes.

The bigger picture

Six tournaments, six different winners — a full season so far without a repeat, which this league has managed once before.

Doole stretches the lead to 92 points, twenty-one clear of Charlie Drotar, and he has now cashed in five of his six nights.
