Canterberry Poker League · Tournament #48
Josh Reel Goes Back-to-Back
Seven tournaments, seven winners — and then the same man won again. It is the third time anyone has done it here.
A month after ending a nine-month wait for a win, Josh Reel did not wait at all for the next one. He came through a sixteen-handed field in four hours and thirty-five minutes for $140 — his fifth Canterberry Poker League win, and back-to-back.
Only Eric Denny in 2009 and Kjell Wygant in 2010 have won two in a row in this league. Josh is the third, and the win draws him level with Lee Ugarte on five career wins, one behind Eric and Warren Mervin at the top.
Four of the fifteen knockouts were his, including the next three finishers. Brian Albers was second for $75 in only his second tournament of the season; the heads-up match took two minutes and fifteen seconds. Warren took third and $45 without making a single knockout all night.
Charlie Drotar was fourth for $30 with three knockouts — more than anyone but the winner — and Lee was fifth for $25, one of the three Charlie put out. The money ran one place deeper than usual and stopped at Rick Mazza, who took $5 for ninth.

The undercard
David Doole came in leading the league and went out first, after two hours and thirty-three minutes, knocked out by Mazza. The finish dropped him from first to fifth.
Steve McLean was sixth, the first place outside the main payouts. Mandy Denny finished eighth with a knockout, seven places clear of her husband Eric Denny, who came fifteenth.
The bigger picture
The run of different winners ends at seven, which matches last season and is as far as this league has ever gone.
Josh now leads on 82 points from seven starts, ten clear of Mac, who has played six. With two tournaments left, four players sit within thirteen points of him.
