Canterberry Poker League · Tournament #49

Erik Treiber Wins His First

A year and a half of trying, five knockouts, and a heads-up match against the man who won tournament #1.

Friday, March 8, 2013 16 players $320 prize pool 5 paid

In thirteen tournaments since September 2011, Erik Treiber had cashed twice and never finished better than third. On Friday he made five knockouts, played five hours and seventeen minutes, and won $140 for his first Canterberry Poker League win.

He got there through Mike Conner, who matched him knockout for knockout — five apiece, more than anyone else managed — and then lost a heads-up match that ran eight minutes and fifty-three seconds. Second was worth $75. Mike Conner has won this league exactly once, and it was tournament #1, in June 2008.

Scott Dishong took third and $50, his fourth cash in eight tournaments. Brian Albers was fourth for $30, a second straight money finish in a season he has only played three times. Josh Reel completed the money in fifth for $25.

The undercard

Tom Buzbee bubbled in sixth. Seventh was shared: Steve Drown and Steve McLean went out together, both to Mike Conner. Rick Mazza was the first player out after two hours and twenty-nine minutes, knocked out by Skippy.

The bigger picture

Nine tournaments, eight different winners, and the newest of them had never won anything here before.

Josh still leads on 92 points, twelve clear of Mac. One tournament remains, and the men behind Josh need him to miss it — he has played eight of nine so far.
