Charlie Drotar Takes the Fiftieth
Eighteen players closed the year out, and Josh Reel finished eleventh and won the league anyway.
Eighteen players sat down for the fiftieth Canterberry Poker League tournament, and Charlie Drotar got up last. Five hours and one minute, $160, and his second league win — the first since August 2011.
He beat Warren Mervin heads-up in four minutes and fifty-three seconds. Warren made three knockouts on the night, as many as anyone, and took $85 for second. David Doole was third for $50.
Mandy Denny finished fourth for $35 and Kelly Kruegel fifth for $25 — two players with a runner-up apiece to their name and no wins between them. The payouts ran to six again, and the last $5 went to Mike Conner.

The undercard
Lori Mazza finished ninth with three knockouts, as many as anyone made all night. Steve McLean went out first, after two hours and twenty minutes, and Josh Reel came eleventh — which turned out not to matter.
The bigger picture
Ten tournaments, nine different winners. Only one man won twice all year, and that was Josh, back to back in January and February. Nine is as many as this league has ever had in a year, matching last season.
Josh Reel is the 2012-13 League Champion and takes the trophy, finishing on 100 points from nine starts — nine clear of Warren, who played nine as well. He is the fifth League Champion in five seasons, and no one has yet won it twice: Warren Mervin, Eric Denny, Kjell Wygant and David Doole hold the other four.
