Warren Mervin Draws Level with Josh Reel
Eight wins each. And Rick Mazza finished fourth for the third tournament in a row.
Three months ago Josh Reel took sole possession of the all-time lead with his eighth Canterberry Poker League win. On Friday Warren Mervin won his eighth and took half of it back — four hours and fifty-three minutes, the longest tournament of the season so far, and $80.
He did it with two knockouts. The men who did the work were the two who finished behind him: Charlie Drotar and Mike McEvoy made four apiece, eight of the eleven eliminations between them, and finished second and third. Charlie took $50 after a seven-minute heads-up match; Mike McEvoy took $30 and is now nineteen league tournaments into a career without a win.
Rick Mazza completed the money in fourth for $20. He has played three tournaments this season and finished fourth in all three.

The undercard
Eric Denny bubbled in fifth, one of the four Charlie put out. David Doole, who won in July, was the first player out after an hour and thirty-three minutes. Lee Ugarte knocked him out and then went eighth himself.
The bigger picture
Four tournaments, four different winners, and the standings have compressed into a knot. Six players sit inside fifteen points of the lead, and the leader did not play tonight.
Josh Reel stays top on 91 from three starts. Mike McEvoy is second on 85 and Rick Mazza third on 84, also from three each. Mike McEvoy has never won a league tournament; Rick Mazza has won five and was champion last season.
