Forty-Seven Minutes Heads-Up, and the Record Falls Again
Four months ago this league had never seen a forty-minute finish. Paul Coffman and Rick Mazza went nearly fifty.
Paul Coffman and Rick Mazza played heads-up for forty-seven minutes and ten seconds — the longest finish in Canterberry Poker League history by nearly seven minutes, and the second time the record has gone this season. Paul won it for $100 and a fourth league win.
Until September the record had stood at thirty-nine and a half minutes. David Doole and Greg Howell pushed it past forty in September, and now this. Two of the three longest heads-up matches this league has played have come in the last four months.
Nobody dominated the earlier part of it. Four players finished the night on three knockouts — Paul, Rick Mazza, Doole and Lance Cain — and no one made more than that.
Rick Mazza took $65 for second, his first cash of the season in five appearances. Doole was third for $35 and Josh Martin completed the money in fourth for $25, the first cash of a four-tournament career.

The undercard
Lee Ugarte bubbled in fifth. Lance Cain finished sixth with three knockouts, taking out the men who came eighth, ninth and twelfth. Jeff Holderman was the first player out after fifty-three minutes.
Warren Mervin arrived leading the standings and came tenth of fifteen.
The bigger picture
Seven tournaments, six different winners. Paul is the first man to win twice this season.
He leads on 81 points from six starts, six ahead of Warren. Three tournaments remain and Paul has now banked two wins and a fourth inside his five counting scores — the same shape that carried him to the title last season.
