Duane Barone Wins His Second in Forty-Four Months
He knocked out everybody who finished above fifth, and third place was shared.
Duane Barone had not won a Canterberry Poker League tournament since February 2011. On Friday he won his second in four hours and forty minutes for $95, and the three knockouts he made were the three players who finished directly behind him.
The last of those took twenty-two minutes of heads-up play, the longest finish of the season. Scott Dishong lost it and took $50, having knocked out five of the fourteen — more than anyone. He has played two tournaments this season and reached the final two in both.
Third was shared. Lee Ugarte and Mike Conner went out on the same hand and took $30 apiece; Lee made three knockouts getting there and Mike made none. It is Mike’s fourteenth cash in fifty league tournaments, a career in which he has won exactly one — tournament #1, six years and four months ago.
Lori Mazza completed the money in fifth for $20.

The undercard
David Doole bubbled in sixth. Mandy Denny was the first player out after two hours and eighteen minutes, knocked out by Warren Mervin, who won last month and finished fourteenth of fifteen this time.
The bigger picture
Five tournaments, five different winners — the fourth season running that the opening five have gone that way.
Josh Reel leads on 111 points from four starts, twelve clear of Rick Mazza and David Doole, who are level on 99. Skippy is fourth on 88 from two appearances — half as many as anyone above him.
