Josh Reel Is the First to Ten
He won it with two knockouts. The man who made five finished second, and the man he passed finished third.
Nobody had won ten Canterberry Poker League tournaments. Josh Reel has now — four hours and fifteen minutes, $70, and a tenth win that takes him clear of Warren Mervin at the top of the all-time list.
Warren was in the room and finished third for $40.
Josh did it with two knockouts. David Doole made five, more than anyone else in the room, and lost the heads-up match in eight minutes, taking $50 for second. Each of the season’s first four tournaments had gone to the man who made the most knockouts in it; this is the first that did not.
Greg Howell was fourth for $30, three weeks after winning in his second appearance; that is two cashes from three league tournaments. Charlie Drotar completed the money in fifth for $15.

The undercard
Mike McEvoy bubbled in sixth with two knockouts. Three Dennys sat down: Eric Denny came seventh, his father Paul Denny twelfth and Mandy Denny thirteenth.
Steve McLean arrived leading the standings and was the first player out, after an hour and forty-five minutes, knocked out by Eric.
The bigger picture
Five tournaments, four different winners. Josh is the first man to win twice this season and it has put him top on 84 points, seventeen clear of Mac.
Every player in the top five has now played four tournaments or more, and with only the best five scores counting, the cards are nearly full. From here most of the field can only improve by beating what they have already banked.
