Steve McLean Knocks Out Ten
Second only to the eleven from January. He also broke a record for the quickest exit this league has seen — one he had held himself.
Three years after his first, Steve McLean won his second Canterberry Poker League tournament by knocking out ten of the eighteen players who had to go — four hours and fifty-seven minutes, $90, and the second-highest total this league has recorded.
Only Steve Drown’s eleven in January stands above it. Ten months ago nobody had ever made more than eight; four men have now gone past it, and all four did it this year.
The first of Mac’s ten came fast. Charlie Drotar was out after thirty-two minutes and twenty-nine seconds, the quickest anybody has left a table in seventy-six tournaments — and it took the record off Mac, who had gone out after thirty-four minutes in February 2012.
Paul Coffman was second for $65 after a nineteen-minute heads-up match, with one knockout to his name. Josh Reel took third and $55 with three, Justin Vaughn fourth and $35 in only his second league tournament, and Eric Denny completed the money in fifth for $20, also with three.

The undercard
Jeff Ferguson bubbled in sixth. Brad Stull played his first league tournament and came seventeenth — one of Mac’s ten, as were the men who finished eighteenth and nineteenth.
Greg Howell, who won in September, came eleventh.
The bigger picture
Six tournaments, five different winners. Mac had finished second, second and third already this season without winning one; this was the third time he reached the final two, and the first time he came out on the right side of it.
Josh Reel still leads on 98 points, three ahead of Mac and twelve ahead of Paul Coffman. All three have filled their five-score cards, so the last four tournaments are about replacing bad nights rather than adding good ones.
