Canterberry Poker League · Tournament #97
Duane Barone Wins, Nine Months After Setting the Record for Losing Fastest
Seven tournaments, seven different winners — the deepest this league has gone into a season without a repeat since 2013.
In April Duane Barone was eliminated after nineteen minutes, the quickest anyone has ever left a table here. In October he went out after twenty-three, which is the second quickest. On Friday he won the thing — four knockouts, four hours and fifty-eight minutes, $150, and a third league win thirty-nine months after his second.
Twenty-one players made it the second-biggest field this league has seated, behind only the twenty-two of last March.
Andrew Shier matched him with four knockouts and lost the six-minute heads-up match, taking $100 for second. It is the third time he has finished runner-up — after August 2015 and January 2016 — and he has still not won one in twenty-eight tournaments.
Josh Reel was third for $60 with three knockouts, David Doole fourth for $50 without one, and Eric Denny completed the money in fifth for $40.

The undercard
Jeff Holderman bubbled in sixth. Mike Waid played his first league tournament and came eighth. Rick Mickaliger was the first player out after an hour and thirty-four minutes, in a field where nobody went early.
Lee Ugarte finished seventh with three knockouts, as many as anyone outside the final two.
The bigger picture
Seven tournaments, seven different winners. The last season to open this deep without a repeat was 2012-13, which also reached seven; no season has ever gone eight.
Charlie Drotar still leads on 87 points from six starts, having cashed four times and won none of them. Eric Denny is second on 81 from seven and David Doole third on 80 from five. Three tournaments remain.
