Lee Ugarte Wins His Eighth, and Justin Vaughn Loses His Third Final in Three

Ten players, and the last two of them were done in two minutes and sixteen seconds.

Ten players turned up in June, the smallest field in twenty-one months. Lee Ugarte knocked out four of them, reached heads-up against Justin Vaughn and finished it in two minutes and sixteen seconds, the third-quickest ending the league has produced. The tournament itself ran four hours and twenty-six minutes; $245 went to the winner.

It is Lee’s second win of the season, his eighth here and the sixteenth of his career. Nobody else has more than three Eight Deuce wins.

Justin has now been in the last two of three tournaments running — a win in April, second in May, second again on Friday — and took $175. Shawn Miller made three knockouts and was third for $115, and David Doole fourth for $85 without one.

Angela Cain bubbled in fifth in a field where four of ten were paid, one place ahead of her husband Lance Cain. Paul Coffman was the first player out for the second time in three tournaments.

The bigger picture

Ten players and one rebuy made $620, the smallest pool since September 2022. The last time the league drew a ten-man field was that autumn, when two came in a row.

Six tournaments, five winners, and Lee Ugarte is back in front on 248.24, fifty-two ahead of Justin Vaughn and Warren Mervin, who are separated by half a point.
