Canterberry Poker League · Tournament #78
Eric Denny Knocks Out Nine for His Ninth
Five players have now beaten a knockout mark that stood for six years, and all five did it in the last thirteen months. Mike Conner reached another final two, ninety-two months after his only win.
Eric Denny knocked out nine of the sixteen players who had to go and won his ninth Canterberry Poker League tournament — four hours and twenty-one minutes, $85, and a first win in twelve months. It draws him level with Warren Mervin on nine, one behind Josh Reel.
Nine knockouts used to be impossible here. In the thirteen months since Steve Drown made eleven, five different players have now beaten the old mark of eight, and Eric is the fifth.
Mike Conner was second for $55 after a fifteen-minute heads-up match. He has played sixty league tournaments and won one of them — the first this league ever held, in June 2008, ninety-two months ago.
Charlie Drotar took third and $40, Josh Reel fourth and $30, and Rick Mickaliger completed the money in fifth for $25, five weeks after ending a forty-seven-month wait for a win.

The undercard
David Doole bubbled in sixth. Mandy Denny finished tenth with a knockout — she put out Steve McLean, who came fifteenth of seventeen and lost the league lead by doing it. Eric knocked her out in turn, five places further on.
Lee Ugarte was the first player out after an hour and twenty-eight minutes.
The bigger picture
Eight tournaments, seven different winners, and two to play. Josh Reel is still the only man to have won twice this season.
He also leads again, on 103 points, two ahead of Mac and thirteen ahead of Paul Coffman. With five scores counting and everyone near the top holding a full card, the last two nights are a matter of who can beat their own worst result.
