Josh Reel Makes It Three on Eleven
Forty-one months since his last win, and it puts the same three men level at the top for the fourth time in five years.
Josh Reel had not won a Canterberry Poker League tournament since October 2015. On Friday he won his eleventh — four hours and twenty-six minutes, $155 — and joined Eric Denny and Warren Mervin at the top of the all-time list.
These three have now arrived at the same number four times: seven in April 2014, eight in February 2015, ten in October 2016 and eleven tonight. Between those moments each of them has held the lead alone, and none has kept it.
Warren was second for $100 after an eight-minute heads-up match, which is as close as he has come to a twelfth.
Andrew Shier took third and $70 having knocked out five — more than anyone, and more than twice what the winner managed. Charlie Drotar was fourth for $40 without a knockout, Lance Cain fifth for $30 also without one, and Jeff Reichwein completed the money in sixth for $5 with three.

The undercard
Dale Ellicott arrived leading the season and was the first player out, after an hour and thirty minutes, knocked out by Andrew Shier. He still leads, because the five-score rule throws the night away.
Duane Barone came seventh with two knockouts and Eric Denny tenth with three. Justin Vaughn went twentieth, seconds behind him — six league tournaments now, three of them cashes, all three in the top five.
The bigger picture

Dale Ellicott leads on 116 points from eight starts and did not add a point on Friday; Rick Mazza is three behind on 113 from nine. Jeff Reichwein is third on 107 having played seven, and he is the only man in the top three who can still improve on a thin card.
