Eric Denny Goes Back-to-Back for the Second Time

Thirteen wins now, and he is the only man who has won two in a row here twice — ten years apart.

A month after taking the all-time lead alone, Eric Denny won again — six knockouts, four hours and fifty-eight minutes, $225, and a thirteenth Canterberry Poker League win.

Back-to-back wins have happened five times in this league, and Eric owns two of them. He did it in September and October 2009; he has now done it in October and November 2019, ten years and a hundred tournaments later. Kjell Wygant managed it once and Josh Reel twice.

Josh was the man he beat, taking $140 for second after a twenty-one-minute heads-up match. He stays on eleven wins, two behind.

Jeff Reichwein was third for $90 with five knockouts, one fewer than the winner and more than twice what anybody else managed. Warren Mervin took fourth and $60, and Greg Howell completed the money in fifth for $40.

Charlie Drotar bubbled in sixth. Dawn Bjork, who won in August, came nineteenth; Lee Ugarte, who won the opener, came ninth. Lance Cain was the first player out after an hour and thirty-seven minutes.

The bigger picture

Six tournaments, five different winners. Eric is the first man to win twice this season, and he did it in consecutive months.

Jeff Reichwein still leads on 107 points from six starts — five cashes in six, and no wins. Eric is second on 99. Under the six-score rule both men have now filled their cards, so from here every night has to beat something they already hold.
