The Heads-Up Record Falls Again, and the League Leader Goes Out First
Two tournaments in a row have now produced the longest finish this league has ever played. Jeff Reichwein was gone in forty minutes and lost the lead with it.
Twenty-four players — the second-largest field this league has seated — and Eric Denny won it for $275, the biggest prize the Canterberry Poker League has paid. It is his fourteenth win.
The finish took fifty-two minutes and forty-two seconds against Steve McLean — and it breaks a record set in the previous tournament. February’s forty-nine minutes and fifty-six seconds had itself beaten a mark that stood three years. This league has now produced its two longest finishes back to back.
Mac took $155 for second. He and Shawn Miller, third for $115, both matched the winner’s four knockouts — three men tied on four, and nobody in a twenty-four-player field made more.
Angela Cain was fourth for $85, the first cash of a nine-tournament career, and she did it without knocking anybody out. Juan Lopez completed the money in fifth for $60.

The undercard
Jeff Reichwein arrived leading the season by seven points and was the first player out, after thirty-nine minutes and forty-six seconds — twenty-fourth of twenty-four, knocked out by Andrew Shier, who then put out the man in twenty-third as well. It cost Jeff the lead.
Lance Cain came sixth, two places behind his wife. Jeff Holderman finished eleventh with three knockouts.
The bigger picture
Nine tournaments, seven different winners. Eric Denny has three of them — the first man to win three in a season since he himself won four in 2009-10.
He leads on 138 points from nine starts, eighteen ahead of Jeff Reichwein, who is stuck on 120 for the third tournament running. One remains.
